Fieldcraft: Thursday, April 17
LLL--cold front moving in; it's supposed to be 30 mph winds and high of 60, so dress in layers. It may be cool.
Bring your journal, art kit, binoculars, compass, and wildflower and bird field guides.
Jordan and I will be driving from the OPC at 2, if any cyclists want to carpool instead of fighting the wind. Let me know if you want a ride so i'll know to wait on you.

Fieldcraft: homework
Sketch two pages of practice birds in your journal. If you are going to see the prairie chickens, then these should be prairie chickens. If not, access the LEAS checklist to birds of the Llano Estacado online, then pick out the warblers and shorebirds most likely to b here this time of year. Sketch some of those, then go out and find them this weekend.
For both groups: sketch two pages of "live birds" after you have done the two pages of practice birds.
Fill all four pages. I don't want to see a lot of empty space on the page.

Fieldcraft: trip to see the prairie chickens and news about this week's class
Hi all--
We'll leave for the prairie chicken festival around 3:30 pm on Friday. We should get there in time to check in and set up camp before dinner, which is from 7-9. Don't forget that you are responsible for any camping gear you need--everything else is covered.
Chicken-viewing takes place very early Saturday morning (we'll have breakfast around 4 am). After that, there are some bird walks and guided tours throughout the day. If everyone is agreeable, we can leave sometime after lunch (we can discuss this in class). That way, we'll be back late Saturday afternoon/early evening.
Class news: Meet at Tech Terrace Park on Thursday. We'll carpool from there to the cememtery for some bird-watching. Bring your binoculars, field guides, and journals.
Cheers!
