Hi everyone—




I have been in one administrative meeting after another all week and will not be able to get your journals graded by today. I’m going to take them home tonight and grade them and bring them to you in class tomorrow.



Also, tomorrow looks like it will be a windy day, and not a good one for sitting around a lake trying to draw geese. Meet instead at Lubbock Lake Landmark at 2:20.

Hi everyone—




High tomorrow is supposed to be around 61, but it will be windy, in the 20-30 mph range. I think we can still draw trees, but there will not be many birds to see (why is that?). Meet at Urbanovsky park at 2. If necessary, we will then go over to the Englih building courtyard, where we will be more protected from the wind. Dress warmly, in layers, and be prepared to sit on the ground.

It looks like tomorrow will be another pretty day, with temperatures right around 60 F during class time. I'd like to take advantage of the nice weather while we have it and go look for some winter birds. Let's meet at the City of Lubbock Cemetery, the back gate, by the mausoleum. Hi everyone--

We will be meeting at Lubbock Landmark tomorrow. A map and directions to LLL can be found here: http://www.depts.ttu.edu/museumttu/lll/location.html

It looks like it will be a pretty day, with temperatures in the 60s, so you might want to bring at least a sweater or light jacket. Please remember also to come prepared to walk and to sit comfortably on the ground. Bring your art kits and binoculars (and bird field guides if you have purchased them).

Here is the list of birds we saw as a group last week (thanks to Matthew!):

3. Common house sparrow (English sparrow)
4. American gold finch
5. Blue jay
6. European starling
7. Northern flicker woodpecker
8. Inca dove

After this you will be expected to keep your own lists in your notebook.

MEC 12/2

Hi everyone--

I think the easiest (and least confusing thing) to do is to simply pick up where we left off with the tutorials last week. We will workshop the essay dealing with solace and emptiness. You can also hand in the draft of the poem I had assigned.

As for your final poem, it is still due on or before the final.

We will not be discussing "The Mappist," and there will be no further writing assignments.

Apparently there is a problem with the course packet copy of "the Mappist." I'll bring a correct version of it to class tomorrow. In the meantime, don't worry about a reading assignment for tomorrow. We'll do an in class writing exercise instead.

Also, there has been some confusion about when the midterms are due, for which I take responsibility. I don’t believe I have yet set a due date, and so I’ll set one now: October 30, at the start of class. I’ve talked to a couple of you who are having trouble getting supplies for your projects, so that should give you plenty of time. One of you has already turned in the midterm; if you would like to take advantage of the extra time to work some more on it, please feel free to do so.

Hi all--

Remember, there is NO reading ofr tomorrow. We will be discussing your midterm in class. Also, I will be out of town at a conference Thrusday thorugh Tuesday of next week, so there are NO tutorials this week. There will also be NO  class next Tuesday (10/16). You are to use that time and the tutorial time from this week to work with your tutorial groups on your midterm.
